Chamber Choir is seeking to appoint a new Musical Director.
|Musical Director | William McElwee|
William is in demand as a choral
conductor, and praised for his ability to get outstanding vocalism from
choirs and to stretch them musically. Trained as an operatic soloist
at the New Zealand School of Music and New Zealand Opera
School, he is in demand as a baritone soloist and vocal coach. In
his home town of Wellington, New Zealand, William conducted and
accompanied several choirs, including Northern Chorale, St
Peter's Anglican Church, and St James Anglican Church. He
performed with most of the choral and operatic institutions in the
Wellington region, including New Zealand Opera, Orpheus Choir,
Days Bay Opera, and Eternity Opera. Some of his recent
highlights include the bass solos in Handel's Messiah and Bach's St
Matthew Passion with the Wairarapa Singers, and the title role in
The Marriage of Figaro with Eternity Opera.
William moved to the United Kingdom in 2019, and is currently Assistant Director of the Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir, singing teacher at The Gryphon School, and maintains a private singing studio. In January 2020 he will take on the Musical Director role of the Collegium Singers, Taunton. Alongside his PGDip in Performance Voice, he holds a BSc in Mathematics and a BA in English and Latin with Honours in English Language. Outside of music, he is an avid sports fan.
